On Monday night, the government received another donation of 647,080 Moderna vaccine doses from the US government, through the Covax facility.
The vaccines arrive amidst a hunger from the population for covid 19 vaccination in the face of limited doses available.
With this new arrival, the health ministry has expressed optimism that the doses will fully vaccinate over 300.000 persons.

Health Minister Jane Ruth Acheng says the vaccines will be kept safely and administered twice to the same group,4 weeks apart.
Acheng has however cautioned the public not to mix this type of vaccine with others.
She explains:”The vaccines have been split into 2 phases 323,520 doses to reserve some for the 2nd dose to be administered in 4 weeks, it should be noted that moderna vaccine cannot be mixed with any other covid19 vaccines being rolled out in the country, this is consistent with the guidance given from the vaccine advisory committee whereby Uganda has not received any recommendation for mix and match of the vaccine”
Dr. Aceng says 1.4 million people have been vaccinated with 431,655 receiving their second dose.

She says the country is currently focused on vaccinating everyone above 18 years and maybe plans for buying Moderna booster shots will be considered.
Dr. Aceng says the country expects to get 27 million vaccine doses including Johnson and Johnson, through COVAX Facility and the African Union starting the end of this month.
