The Ministry of internal affairs and Cheiftancy of military intelligence-CMI has launched investigations into circumstances under which a quack recruiting company dupped over 200 Ugandans in fake job scams.

Reliant Recruiters International –RRI claiming to be a global recruiting company with offices based in Nalukolongo, Kampala created a Facebook account luring victims to apply for jobs in Dubai and Abudhabi.

Weeks down the road, the quack company reportedly convinced 280 customers online to apply for jobs abroad .

Each customer was told to vomit between 600,000 to 1 million shillings as medical and ‘Interpol’ expenses for interview jobs in Uganda and other Arab cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Agnes Igoye, Uganda’s Deputy National Coordinator Prevention of Trafficking in Persons says the company has since shut down after dupping innocent Ugandans of more than 180 million shillings.

Igoye says the victims are aged 18 to 30 years and the page was suspiciously pulled down a few weeks ago.

She says over 200 complaints have been filed by victims at the Ministry, Nateete, and Nalukolongo police stations.

Venis Baguma Tumuhimbise, the coordinator of anti-human trafficking at the Ministry of Internal Affairs has tasked Igoye to work with detectives at Criminal Investigations Directorate to grab the suspects.

Receipts obtained by Igoye and her team, show that at least each of the victims was paid 600,000 shillings on the promise that they were to fly out of the country in two weeks.

According to URN, Maggie Nanteza, one of the victims said they were promised a free Visa to Dubai but after reaching RRI offices at Makanga House in Nalukolongo, they were informed that they needed to pay for medical tests and Interpol services.
