Court has responded positively to an application by relentless city lawyer Male Mabirizi to issue criminal summons to National Unity Platform (NUP) boss Robert Kyagulanyi a.k.a. Bobi wine.
On Monday this week, Mabirizi dragged Bobi Wine to the Law Development Centre Court in Kampala over illegal registration and entry into Makerere University 20 years ago.
In his petition, Mabirizi told the court that Bobi Wine was falsely registered in contradiction of the University Prospectus of 1999/2000 – 2000/2001.

The Prospectus of 1999/2000 – 2000/2001 only allowed for applicants below the age of 25 years or to have completed formal education at least five years before the year of application to be admitted to the mature entry scheme.
However, according to evidence filed by the persistent lawyer, Bobi Wine didn’t fulfill any of the above and yet still got admitted to the University to do a Diploma in Music Dance and Drama (MDD).
Mabirizi therefore asked the Court to summon Bobi Wine to take a plea to the charges.

He also stated that should Bobi Wine deny the charges, he already has enough evidence obtained from Makerere University to grind him.
Now in a recent development, the Grade One Magistrate Augustine Alule has summoned Bobi Wine to appear without fail before Court on October 7, 2021 at midday to respond to the criminal charges.
“Whereas your attendance is necessary to answer the charge of obtaining registration by false pretence contrary to section 312 of the Penal Code Act Cap. 120; You are hereby commanded by the Uganda government to appear in this Court on the 7th October 2021 at 12:00 noon or soon thereafter as the case may be heard,” reads the summons in part.
This is the second time Mabirizi is digging out evidence on the academic qualifications of the NUP boss.
In June 2021, Mabirizi dragged Makerere University to the Civil Division of the High Court on grounds that Bobi Wine’s MDD Diploma was falsely acquired. But this case has since stalled as a hearing date is yet to be fixed.
