President Museveni has condemned the bomb blast on a pork joint that was instigated by the Allied Democratic Forces -ADF rebels suggesting it was religiously motivated .
The president was addressing the nation on Covid-19 and the security situation on Thursday night when he made the statement while responding to criticism that the government is deliberately implicating Muslims in acts of terrorism.
Museveni on the contrary said that the National Resistance Movement-NRM government appreciates efforts of Muslims as wealth creators and loyal members of the society.He however said the ADF is recruiting mostly Muslims and relate more with Muslims to carry out its dirty work in Uganda.
”Don’t involve yourselves in this nonsense of saying the government is targeting Muslims] leave the wealth creators alone. Among the wealth creators, the relationship is symbiotic; there is no parasitism,ADF has been attracting several especially Muslim youths to join them.
Museveni further condemned the attack on the pork joint as one that was religiously motivated .
” The attack on the pork eaters at Komamboga was not right. The attackers must have violated Haram by smelling the pork. Let the pork eaters eat their pork. Does pork in someone’s stomach cause you indigestion? – Museveni said .
In a space of one week Uganda has registered two bomb blasts that killed two persons and injured others.
The first device went off at a pork eatery in Komamboga killing a waitress on spot while another was an incident involving a suicide bomber on Swift bus travelling to Bushenyi district. Several arrests,with mostly Muslim suspects have been made in connection to both incidents that have since been pinned on ADF.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said in a media briefing on Tuesday that preliminary investigations point to the ADF. Enanga linked all the attacks to ADF. He explains that the commander of the ADF terror cell terrorizing Ugandans is Med Nkalubo also known as Benjamin Franklin, who is hiding in DRC jungles for six years.
He said Nkalubo was similary behind a suicide mission during the burial of Deputy Inspector General of Police Lt Gen Paul Lokech where one person was arrested with an explosive vest. Another person linked to the group Hamidu Nsubuga was shot dead in Kyebando.
In previous incidents where prominent people such as AIGP Andrew Kaweesi, former MP Ibrahim Abiriga, Sheikh Hassan Kirya, Joan Kagezi among others were shot dead; the majority of those arrested also had Muslim names.
