Eric Omondi now claims Tanzanian heavy-hitter Diamond Platnumz and himself are in the lead in East Africa as the most talked about celebrities, snubbing all UG artists including National Unity Platform (NUP) darling, Bobi Wine.

Eric Omondi berates UG artists when it comes to generating debate in East Africa

Omondi, who brags about being the president of comedy on the African continent, made the revelation while conducting an interview with Citizen TV’s 10 over 10 show on Friday.

“I want to inform the entertainment industry that the most talked about artistes in East Africa are Diamond Platnumz and Eric Omondi,” he bragged, leaving out Chameleone and Bobi Wine who many Ugandans believe they are a force to reckon with when it comes to generating debate in the region.

Indeed one would think that Bobi Wine is up there, a People Power honcho, who has bossed headlines around the world ever since he gave Sevo a run for his money in the presidential polls but Eric Omondi finds him lacking!

The 41-year-old ‘funny chap’ who also doubles as CEO of Big Tyme Entertainment sought to demystify assumptions that he, alongside other East African artists, rely on clout to remain relevant.

According to Omondi, Bobi Wine’s name is insignificantly mentioned compared to him and Diamond

“In layman’s language people call it clout, but it’s creativity, entertainment and showbiz. We are trying our best not to be boring and predictable. We are pushing a brand,” he stated.

Quoting Dave Chappelle, an American stand-up comedian, Omondi said, “Comedians are supposed to push the line, because we are the mirrors of society.”

He added: “Entertainment is not only about music and comedy, but it is also a lifestyle. The work of an entertainer is to push the envelope and cross the line. We are allowed, especially comedians.”

The controversial comedian said this following the backlash of a fake pregnancy stunt he recently pulled with singer Miss P to launch her new song dubbed ‘Baby Shower.’

“I was introducing Miss P and we were pushing her work. I needed attention on her, and we had to do what we did,” he said.
