Ralf Rangnick has been at Manchester United for a month and he already knows the size of problem he is dealing with at the club. What is the nature of the problem?

The German is dealing with indiscipline problem before he can go on to fix the smaller problem of the kind of football the fans want him to play.

It is clear there are players who feel they have an entitlement to matters regarding the first team. You can only blame it on the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who ironically had a small group of known names on the starting line up.

Anthony Martial who is in arms up with the current manager Rangnick enjoyed a great relationship with the manager before the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Marcus Rashford whose deep in form can not be said to be as a result of not being handed the starting role. Rashford played far too many games under Solskjaer and many would predict he would suffer as a result.

Since the Europa Cup final against Villarreal and undergoing a surgery on his arm, the 21 year old striker has not been himself.

Despite the deep in form, Rashford played ahead of experienced Uruguan, Edison Cavani and Martial.

Paul Pogba who is recovering from an injury is another problem that the Norwegian grappled with. Pogba had no definite position in Solskjaer’s team. He was always shuffled across the midfield rendering him ineffective.

The arrival of Ronaldo created three problems for Manchester United. There was the Martial problem. The Frenchman under Solskjaer played as the pivot man.

Even when the club signed Nigerian Odion Ighalo, he still went on to stay on the bench until he was allowed to leave.

Manchester United signed Van der Beek to beef up the midfield in the last window. The Dutchman struggled for playing time since the Norwegian preferred Bruno Fernandes even for the smaller competitions like Carabao.

Yuan Mata appeared to be on his way out last season but to his shock, he was handed an extension with the promise of playing time.

However, he has been in and out of the squads but only to warm the bench.

Nemanja Matic is another name that had to put up with Solskjaer’s preference to Scot Mactominay and Brazilian Fred for the midfield positions.

Matic has been lucky to be brought back to life with Ralf Rangnick handing him playing time.

Mason Greenwood was made to believe by the Norwegian’s management that he had an outright claim to a place in the starting line up. Greenwood has gone on to enjoy playing time under Rangnick.

The young lad from the United academy is said to have issues with Ronaldo and that has to do with the position the Portuguese has occupied.

Greenwood believes he should be the target man and it is obvious he does not pass the ball to Ronaldo. Rangnick has pointed that out in his pressers and possibly he can deal with it.

There is the issue of Eric Baily, signed from Villarreal by Jose Mourinho. With Solskjaer settling for Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, Baily has found himself isolated and seeking for a move away.

Diogo Dalot who has reinvigorated under Michael Carrick and Ralf Rangnick, suffered under the United legend who favoured Aaron Wan Bisaka for the right back position. He could have left in the last transfer window had AC Milan met United’s interests.

Alex Nicolao Telles was brought in to understudy Luke Shaw at the left back but found himself

stuck on the bench and out of the Brazil national side. Ralf Rangnick has breathed some life into his United playing career by handing him a handful of games. He is back in the Brazil squad that has been called by national coach Tite.

Then in goal, Soljskjaer assured Dean Henderson he had a bright future at Man Utd. He even went ahead to convince him by giving him a series of games ahead of Spanish David Degea. However, with Degea regaining his place in the first team, Henderson has hardly seen games. He wants to leave.

Then there is the mother of problems which involves stars that want to leave on free. Pogba and Jesse Lingard can negotiate with teams of their interest after running down their contracts.

Solskjaer and United could have settled the problems of Lingard and Pogba a year ago but chose to keep the stars at the club. It is now up to the players not Ralf’s to sort themselves.

The German disciplinarian appears to be resolved about that stars that want to leave by not giving them playing time.

Ralf Rangnick was hired on an interim contract basis. He has only six months to steer clear the cracking Man Utd ship. But it is not just a problem.

At the moment as an interim, he can do little to fix the problem. He said it is not in his hands to let stars leave since it is in the hands of John Murtough the director of football to do so.

It is a bucket full of problems that he must tackle before even getting the team to play the kind of football that he wants.

Like he has said it is not an overnight of a problem to clear. It might spill to even the full time manager United will bring in at the end of the season.
