The fire that started at about 12:15 am on Tuesday morning set ablaze one of the dormitories at Olupot B block that houses pupils from four classes including P.4, P.5, P.6, and P.7. By the time it the fire spread, all learners were in their dormitory asleep.
Police at Old Kampala has started investigations into circumstances under which the vicious fire broke out at the school as the cause is yet to be identified.
However ,Lord Mayor Lukwago thinks it is an arson attack by malicious people. He says most fires devastating schools are acts of arson that are not being investigated.
Lukwago, told journalists outside Good Times Infant School in Kawaala.
“In my own assessment it is likely that this is a case of arson, it is unlikely that it is an accident, Unfortunately little action is being taken against this serious crime especially with schools, because in a space of two months, school fires have devastated, we invite authorities concerned to up their game and take drastic measures on whoever is harboring these devilish intentions,”Lukwago said
According to Luke Owoyesigyire the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, the deceased was left inside sleeping while his colleagues escaped to safety.
He explains that the children struggled to pass through the front and back doors before the Police Fire Prevention and rescue services responded, putting out the fire.
“The deceased’s remains were conveyed to city mortuary Mulago. Investigations to ascertain the cause of the fire have commenced.”He said
