Receiving Oulanyah’s body

The body of  the late Speaker of the 11th Parliament Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah, arrives today at the Entebbe International Airport via Ethiopian Airlines.

Early this week , the Minister for Presidency Milly Babalanda released the detailed burial programme ,confirming that that the casket of the deceased will touch ground today at 2:00 pm. It will be received by limited number of high ranking State officials before being handed over to A-plus funeral services.

The casket will be received with full honours. A few leaders and family members will be allowed at this ceremony. Immediately after, the casket will be handed over to A Plus Funeral Management,” the burial programme reads in part.

The body, currently on transit is being escorted by three of his children among others including Uganda’s Ambassador to the United States in Washington DC, Mull Sebujja Katende.

Among officials cleared to receive the deceased at the airport include; the Vice President Jessica Alupo, Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Anita Among and her deputy, Thomas Tayebwa. Other unconfirmed reports also indicate that the President of Uganda will be present to receive the fallen Speaker.

Meanwhile, the Acholi Parliamentary Forum that received a budget over 200 m shillings to culturally organize for the deceased’s send off has set aside a group of cultural dancers to welcome their member.

Anthony Akol,  the Acholi Parliamentary Group chairperson, revealed that there will also be about 70 dancers who will perform a traditional Acholi dance at the airport.

“A cultural gesture to receive back the body,” he told the Daily Monitor.

Immediately after, the casket will be handed over to A-plus Funeral Management who will transport the lifeless body to his residence in Muyenga for two days Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th April. There will be a small service conducted and attended by few people on Sunday.

Receiving Oulanyah’s body

On Monday April 4th at 9.00 am the body will lie at the home of the Speaker  where friends and well-wishers will pay their last respects.

On Tuesday April 5th ,2022 at 9.00 am the body will be moved to the Parliament of Uganda where the Rt. Hon. Speaker will lead the Members of Parliament to pay their final respects. The body will spend the night in Parliament.

Oulanyah burial programme

On Wednesday April 6th ,2022 at 9.00 am the body will be taken to Kololo Ceremonial Grounds for a State Funeral.  His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda and NRM National Chairman will lead the nation in paying tribute to the late Speaker of Parliament.

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda; His Grace Dr. Kazimba Mugalu will be the main celebrant. A maximum number of 1,500 persons including Members of the Executive, Members of Parliament, Members of the Judiciary, Foreign Dignitaries, Heads of Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, Family Members and Leaders from Acholi sub-region will access the grounds.

After the Ceremony, at 3.00 pm the casket will be airlifted to Omoro, Lalogi village; the Speaker’s ancestral home where it will be received by the family and Acholi leaders.  There will be a night vigil at the home.               ·
