Police in Butaleja District have busted two people including a UPDF officer for stealing iron sheets meant for renovating a Hospital.

The suspects including a civilian and the soldier were arrested after authorities at Busolwe General Hospital complained of theft of building materials for the facility currently under construction.

James Wire the hospital’s board chairperson says they got concerned after noticing that over 100 iron sheets and other materials had gone missing under the watch of the accused.

He says rumours had started circulating pinning t the suspected soldier who worked under the UPDF engineering brigade, responsible for the hospital’s renovations.

He says they reported incidents of theft to police and investigations started, leading up to the arrest of the duo. Wire says the suspects were netted with a truck, loading the iron sheets that had been removed from the roof of the staff residences.

The Bukedi South Regional Police spokesperson, IP Moses Mugwe, police started an operation manned by the Officer-In-Charge of Criminal Investigations Department in the district, ASP Peter Baitera Muhanuzi using spies.

Butaleja District handed over the construction of new staff houses in Busolwe Hospital to the UPDF engineering brigade on March 28, 2022 and the projected is estimated to Shs5 billion.
