Supreme Court closes

The Supreme Court offices will remain closed until further notice according to a latest statement from the Judiciary.

The Judiciary announced the closure of the offices in a communication issued on May 31, 2022 by the Chief Justice Alphonso Owiny Dollo, over safety concerns.

In his statement, CJ Dollo explains that the rental offices housing the most prestigious court in the land will be undergoing temporary renovations and rectifications to dilapidated systems within.

The offices have water leakages, flooding in the chambers of Justices, collapsing ceilings, damaged furniture among others.

“These incidents have made it unsafe to continue in occupation of the said premises without a proper assessment of the damage and effecting appropriate rectification. The landlord has been duly notified to assess and rectify the defects. The judiciary has decided and I hereby direct that the Supreme Court be closed as the premises undergo renovations and rectification of the defects”., reads the Memo in part.

CJ Dollo has therefore asked his staff to work from home indefinitely, except for the Registry and Electronic Court Case Management System department, responsible for handling case filing adjustments.

“The Chief Justice shall notify their Lordships of the date when full-court operations shall resume upon issuance of a certificate by the responsible authorities that the premises are safe for occupation”, It reads further
