A soldier is on the run for shooting his colleague to death over a woman. The suspect is private James Omeri Kamarendi from the 29 Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF Battalion.
He is wanted for shooting to death Private Laurence Bwire also from the same battalion around 2 am Wednesday. Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson, says that the two soldiers were guarding Generous Tumuhimbise, the LC 1 Chairperson of Kitooha cell Kahenda Parish in Bireere sub-county Ii Isingiro district.
According to Kasasira preliminary investigations, show that the two soldiers have been feuding over the woman who has been as a househelp for Tumuhimbise, which sparked a fight leading to the shooting.
Kasasira says that Police are working with the UPDF to hunt down the suspect who is at large. He says that they recovered two cartridges from the scene and exhibits.
Tumuhimbise, says that she wasn’t aware of the affair between her househelp and bodyguards. She got the guards last year after she complained to the President that her life was in danger due to her political affiliation with the NRM party.
The deceased’s body is lying at Mbarara Regional Referral hospital mortuary pending a postmortem.
