The Commander in Chief of the armed forces President Yoweri Museveni has exercised his mandate and promoted senior officers under the Uganda People’s Defence forces (UPDF).

This is the fourth appointment of officers by the President in 2022. The first promotions were made in January and the next group was in April.

In an official communication by the UPDF spokesperson Brig Gen. Felix Kulayigye , the promotions and appointments take immediate effect.

According to the communication, Colonel Paul Muhanguzi is promoted to Brigadier General and appointed Second Infantry Division, Second in Command. Muhanguzi has served as the Commanding Officer of 35th Battalion under battle group 15 at the African Union in Somalia (AMISOM).

Colonel Peter Akankunda is promoted to Brigadier General and appointed First Infantry Division – Second in Command. He has previously served as the 403 Brigade Commander, under the UPDF 3 Infantry Division. 

Last week, Gen Museveni promoted 469 and confirmed 28 Senior and Junior officer ranks of the UPDF.

The officers were promoted to ranks of Brigadier General, Colonel and Lieutenant Colonel while those confirmed were given titles of Major on 8th September 2022.
