Kaliro student bleeds to death
Locals in Kaliro District are furious with marine police officers who shot dead a 17-year-old boy on Wednesday while carrying out an operation on the Fisheries Protection Unit .
The deceased Reagan Damba, a senior two student at Bulamogi College, in Gadumire sub-county succumbed to bullet injuries after over bleeding.
Damba was a victim of a crackdown by the police marine unit who had dispatched their teams, to arrest dozens of fishermen accused of illegal fishing by use of beach seines and small boats in lake Kyoga’s waters, within the Kaliro territory.
Eyewitnesses allege that the fishermen, had an exchange with the marine police and started pelting stones while throwing their FPU boats to drown. The police officers hit back by firing live bullets to disperse the rowdy fishermen but a stray bullet landed on the deceased’s back leading to his death.

Officials from both FPU and police have declined to comment about the matter.
Adonia Wako, a fisherman attached to Butambala landing site says there has been infiltration of rowdy youths who prefer violence rather than lawful means of exploring acceptable fishing practices, which he blames for triggering the violence.
