The Police at Kira Division are holding four suspects on allegations of attempted robbery.
The four suspects are; Ivan Kyagulanyi , 25, a resident of Koboko; Jackson Wandera, 28, Jackson Atuhire, 28, and Abubakar Kisoma, all residents of Kiwanga.
It is alleged that on Tuesday at about 10 PM, the gang came driving a Lorry (Isuzu) registration number UAB 269D and parked it at Bulamu coffee factory in Butto, Bweyogerere in Kira Municipality.
They broke the store’s door before loading the vehicle with sacks of coffee beans after breaking, Kampala Metropolitan Police says.
“Police were informed and a team from Kira Police division responded immediately and managed to arrest the four suspects,” KMP Deputy Police Spokesman, Luke Owoyesigyire says.
However, he adds that the driver of the said motor vehicle identified as Medi of Kazinga took off upon sighting the Police. Our team is still pursuing him, Owoyesigyire says.
According to Owoyesigyire, the four suspects are currently detained at Kira Police and exhibits of coffee beans, vehicle and breaking implements were recovered.
Record shows that the same group had broken into this store to steal coffee beans before.
Coffee is Uganda’s top export earner.
In the last Financial Year, it earned the country over 800 million dollars in foreign exchange.
