The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) have confirmed that 17 Allied Democratic Forces- ADF rebels were put out of action on Tuesday in Ntoroko District.
A group of over 30 rebels attacked two villages of Kyobe and Kayanja ii in Bweramule sub-county. The armed attackers who sneaked into the country via River Semiliki terrorized locals killing two on spot and injuring several others.
Most of the locals fled their homes and remain stranded at Karugutu Primary School, and other spots for fear of returning home or lack of transportation.
Commander Mountain Division who doubles as the Commander Operation Shujja, Maj Gen Dick Olum affirms that 17 rebels were gunned down, 13 captured, and recovered over 17 guns. Olum says that in the encounter, one civilian and a UPDF soldier were also killed.
Olum, explains that one of the commanders identified as Yakutu who led the rebels that attacked the villages is among the few that escaped with injuries as he was shot on the back.
However, his colleague, a commander was killed while the third was captured.
“A number suspected to be between 30 and 40 was reported, we expected they had between 20 to 15 guns. We killed 17 and captured 13 alive. If they were 40 and we have captured 30”
However, Olum says that the situation in Bweramule Sub County has normalized. He says that they have asked residents who fled from their homes to return.
