Even with the 2022 World Cup ongoing in Qatar, ESPN brings live coverage of the EFL Championship and Scottish Premiership through the weekend, starting off on the evening of Friday 16 December with Birmingham City v Reading (22:00 LIVE on ESPN).
Saturday 17 December offers up a Scottish clash as Aberdeen welcome Celtic in the early afternoon (14:30 LIVE on ESPN), while the evening features more second-tier English league action as Blackburn Rovers travel to face Norwich City (19:30 LIVE on ESPN).
Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou says he will deal with any issues as they arise with the happiness of his squad after reports that striker Giorgios Giakoumakis will look to leave the club in January after contract talks broke down.
“I don’t think too much about it unless something is presented to me,” said Postecoglou. “I focus more on what I see every day in training. If players are unhappy, have concerns or are looking for other things then it’ll come to my attention pretty quickly and we’ll deal with it as we go along.”
Sunday 18 December is headlined by another Championship match, as Luton Town host Millwall at Kenilworth Road in an early-afternoon kick-off (14:30 LIVE on ESPN).
Every weekday evening from Monday 19 to Thursday 22 December brings fans of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the National Football League (NFL) all the news and views they can handle from ‘NBA Today’ (22:00 LIVE on ESPN) and ‘NFL Live’ (23:00 LIVE on ESPN).

The first live action on ESPN 2 is a National Football League (NFL) clash on the morning of Friday 16 December, pitting the Seattle Seahawks against the San Francisco 49ers (03:15 LIVE on ESPN 2).
The Seahawks will be hoping quarterback Geno Smith continues his fine form of late, having recently passed for a career-high 367 yards and three touchdown passes in a hard-fought win over the Los Angeles Rams.
“He may do it again next week,” teammate DK Metcalf said of Smith. “He’s been doing it ever since he got here. Whenever we put him in and ask him to carry the load of being a leader as a quarterback, he’s done nothing but exceed expectations.”
The afternoon of Saturday 17 December and the morning of Sunday 18 December are dedicated to ESPN College GameDay and NCAA Football games (16:00 – 09:55 LIVE on ESPN 2), with the future stars of the NFL given the stage to make a name for themselves.
The American Football action continues strong on Sunday evening with the Los Angeles Chargers v Tennessee Titans (23:25 LIVE on ESPN 2). The early mornings in the working week also feature more NFL action, as Monday 19 December brings the Las Vegas Raiders v New England Patriots (03:20 LIVE on ESPN 2) and the morning of Tuesday 20 December features the Green Bay Packers v Los Angeles Rams (03:15 LIVE on ESPN 2).
