A two bed-roomed hospital opened by the jailed Kawempe North MP, Ssegirinya Muhammad has failed to make it to the 2nd birthday over financial constraints.
The facility located in Kyebando, Kawempe North, was opened by the incarcerated MP to support his low income generating constituents with affordable services.
The MP received donations from the Netherlands including oxygen cylinders, incubators, anesthetic machines, wheel chairs and orthopedic mattresses among others. While opening the facility, Ssegirinya explained that he also invested part of his heavy paycheck from Parliament to paying hospital staff who included 4 (four) nurses 1 (one) doctor, 1 (one) clinical officer 1(one) lab technician and other casual workers.
However, all hell broke loose when Ssegirinya and his counterpart, Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana were jailed for murder, attempted murder and terrorism over killings in the Greater Masaka area.
Today, a dark cloud loomed around the area as James Mubiru, the Lord Councillor of Lubaga North who also doubles as the lawyer of the hospital came and abruptly closed the facility.
Mubiru told the media that the hospital management cannot run the hospital without out funds because the accounts of the MP are frozen and funds can’t be accessed to run the business.
Mubiru also stated that it’s a shame to close the hospital when the government is just watching the space and it has been the only hospital in the area because Kawempe North does not have any health center III, meaning poor people who cannot afford expensive private health facilities are going to die.
He has called upon members of Parliament more so those fighting for change to come out and demand for the release of Hon Ssegirinya to come back and give services to his people.
