UPDF soldier charged
The Court Martial sitting at Gatete Primary School playground in Rukundo Town Council, Kisoro District has charged and remanded a Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) soldier who opened fire on his colleague and a civilian.
The accused has been identified as Hamis Walimbwa, 38; attached to Kibaya Army Detachment located at Nyarubuye sub-county, at the border with the Uganda Democratic Republic of Congo.
Walimbwa was arraigned before court presided over by Colonel Rogers Kitwala, on Thursday and charged with two counts of murder and attempted murder.

He shot dead Zepherine Nizeyimana, 18, at an entertainment centre in Nyarubande Village, Kisoro District in June last year, following a heated argument. He also injured his colleague Private William Achia who was trying to intervene and calm him down during the scuffle..
Walimbwa has been in detention at the UPDF 2nd Division headquarters in Mbarara until today when he appeared before the Field Court Martial.
