The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has rebuked five soldiers for erecting an illegal roadblock and robbing motorists in Kakoola, Ssabagabo, Wakiso district.
The suspects include RA Corporal Kasaija Niclous, RA Private Oleti Isaac, RA Corporal Leti Jacob and RA private Kazibwe Javira.
Col Deo Akiiki, the Deputy UPDF Spokesperson, said on January 06, that the soldiers behaved badly and violated the UPDF code of conduct against good order and discipline.
He explains that the illegal operations conducted by the soldiers affected movement of vehicles, attracted police and military deployments in Mutungo, causing their consequent arrest.
Col Akiiki further states that the actions of the soldiers cannot be condoned because it affects working relations between security forces.
He says the arrested soldiers will be charged and tried before the Makindye based Army Court Martial.
“Such indiscipline shall not be tolerated, it jeopardizes good working relationship between two sister forces, the soldiers will be arranged in the court martial,” he says
Two UPDF soldiers were on Wednesday arrested in Makindye over robbery but were later released by their colleagues at gunpoint have been identified.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire on Thursday confirmed the incident saying the suspects were rearrested. He says that the case is registered at Mutungo police under Mutungo SD 18/04/01/23.
He says police are investigating the soldiers for aggravated robbery and their colleagues who ensured their release for aiding escape from lawful custody.
