SuperSport viewers on DStv and GOtv can look forward to a classic Premier League rivalry, as Liverpool take on Arsenal at Anfield on the early-evening of Sunday 9 April 2023.

DStv and GOtv is the only true home of football in Africa, offering a range and depth of action that no other rival can match – it’s literally ‘Unbeatable Football’! If you’re going to spend your money on something, it may as well be on the best football in the world.

While the Reds are fighting to claim a top-four finish, the Gunners have far loftier ambitions and will be targeting the three points to keep up their title push.

“Everyone has to give a little bit more. It’s not a secret. If you want to maintain that level, everyone has to step in and give a little bit more,” said Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, meanwhile, wants his team to knuckle down and secure their aims through the remainder of the campaign

“Our job is to squeeze absolutely everything from this season as possible,” said the German tactician.

Key players

Mohamed Salah – The Egyptian was in rip-roaring form the last time Liverpool welcomed a major domestic rival to Anfield, and he’ll hope to be the inspiration behind a powerful performance from the Reds.

Bukayo Saka – One of the frontrunners to be the Premier League’s player of the season, Saka continues to contribute with goals and assists aplenty as Arsenal chase a first league championship in 19 years.

Head-to-head stats

In head-to-head stats, Liverpool and Arsenal have met in 238 matches across all competitions dating back as far as 1893. The Reds have 94 wins compared to 82 for the Gunners, while 62 games have been drawn.

When the teams met in the Premier League earlier this season, at the Emirates Stadium in October 2022, Arsenal claimed a 3-2 home win thanks to goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka (two).

Battles to watch

Jurgen Klopp v Mikel Arteta

Klopp and Arteta both possess fine tactical acumen, but this clash will be about motivation and determination. The manager able to tap into the gritty side of his players will emerge triumphant on Sunday.

Fabinho v Granit Xhaka

This will be a classic midfield battle between two determined operators: Fabinho is the more composed and technically astute, while Xhaka’s energy and physicality could be key to having dominance in the ‘engine room’.

Trent Alexander-Arnold v Gabriel Martinelli

TAA has had a tough season for Liverpool, often being ‘found out’ defensively, and he’ll face another major test of his discipline and positioning against Martinelli, who loves to drift inside off Arsenal’s left flank.
