The Titular Head of the Muslim Community in Uganda Prince Kassim Nakibinge has called on the government speed up the rehabilitation of roads in Kampala City that have been marred by potholes.

During his address to celebrate Eid Al Fitr shortly after the prayers at Kibuli Mosque in Kampala, Prince Nakibinge noted that the current state of roads in the City is appalling and that using them is a nightmare for all.

He appealed to the Ministry of Works and Transport and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to increase the budget for road repairs. He stated that just as the government has constructed various roads in other parts of the country including

“The state of roads is appalling, I want to appeal to the MOWT and KCCA, please repair these roads because we go through a nightmare while using these roads there are so many in need of rehabilitation. Increase the funding to the roads. I have previously appreciated the government for constructing roads in different parts of Uganda including Congo,” he said

On Wednesday, President Museveni ordered the Ministry of Finance to release with immediate effect six billion shillings for the rehabilitation of roads in the city.

Prince Nakibinge also cautioned road users to follow traffic guidelines and minimize road crashes.

He also asked the Ministry of Works and Transport also to erect road signs, especially on highways.

The Kibuli Muslims also want the government to release all political prisoners who have been in various detention facilities in the country before, during, and after the 2021 elections and they want those with cases to be accordingly charged and those innocent to be released instead of being kept in jail for long.
