Fulham want to sign Brazil midfielder Fred, 30, from Manchester United. Everton are interested in a move for Crystal Palace and England goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, 30, if Jordan Pickford leaves the club. (Sun)

Leicester City want more than £50m for England midfielder James Maddison, 26, amid interest from Tottenham and Newcastle. 

Manchester City are close to agreeing personal terms with RB Leipzig’s 21-year-old Croatia defender Josko Gvardiol. 

City have also submitted a bid of £25m for Chelsea’s Croatia midfielder Mateo Kovacic, 29. Arsenal have made an improved offer of £60m for Chelsea and Germany forward Kai Havertz, 24. 

West Ham United are “far from impressed” with the lack of progress in negotiations with Arsenal over a move for England midfielder Declan Rice, 24.

Arsenal will return with a third offer for RiceFred, with the Hammers holding out for a minimum £100m fee. Newcastle United have made a bid of about 50m euros (£42.7m) for AC Milan’s midfielder Sandro Tonali, 23. 

Newcastle will also target the signing of 20-year-old German forward Derry Scherhant from Hertha Berlin. 

But the Magpies are considering ending their interest in Inter Milan and Italy midfielder Nicolo Barella, 26. 

Manchester United have also made contact over a potential move for Barella. Manchester United and Newcastle are the latest clubs to show an interest in Gambia Under-20 forward Adama Bojang, 19, who plays for Steve Biko FC. 

Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool have all made attempts to sign Real Madrid and Uruguay midfielder Fede Valverde, 24, this summer.

Arsenal have held talks with Southampton over 19-year-old Belgium midfielder Romeo Lavia. Chelsea have an opportunity to snatch the signing of Lavia this week as Arsenal are focused on securing a deal for Declan Rice.

Arsenal could make a move for Amadou Onana, with the 21-year-old Belgium midfielder having said he wants to leave Everton.
