Uganda’s Ambassador to Turkey, Nusura Tiperu, officially welcomed the Acibadem Healthcare Group, a leading private healthcare provider from Turkey, as they inaugurated their first information office in Kampala. The ceremony, held at Acacia Mall, marks a milestone not only for Uganda but for the entire East African region.

Acibadem Healthcare Group, renowned for its advanced diagnostic facilities and world-class hospitals, aims to make Uganda a key hub for health services in the region.

Ambassador Tiperu revealed the importance of this establishment, stating, “This office will serve as a coordination point for all East African Community (EAC) nations, catering to an average population of nearly 300 million people.”

The new information office is expected to facilitate better healthcare access and provide opportunities for Ugandans to receive top-notch medical care in Türkiye. Tiperu said Uganda’s strategic position for business in the East African Region and expressed confidence that the presence of Acibadem will attract further health investments.

In her remarks, Tiperu also noted Uganda’s keen interest in learning from Türkiye’s advanced healthcare system. She mentioned that the Ministry of Health in Uganda has already sent delegations of doctors and pharmacists to Türkiye to benchmark medical facilities and training programs.

“I have personally experienced the high-quality care provided by Acibadem, including the privacy, counseling, and translation services,” she shared.

The inauguration was graced by Mehmed Fatih, Turkey’s Ambassador to Uganda, who praised the Ugandan authorities for their support. He described Acibadem as Türkiye’s leading health group and expressed hopes for more future establishments in Uganda.

Ilyas Benveniste, Director of International Business Development at Acibadem, said the group’s services, their expertise and state-of-the-art technology will go a long way in benefitingn Ugandans. He addressed common misconceptions about the cost of medical treatment in Türkiye, aiming to dispel the notion that it is prohibitively expensive.

The information office in Kampala is part of Acibadem’s long-term plan to expand its international reach and bring foreign health investments to Uganda. Beyond healthcare, Acibadem is committed to human capital development, offering training opportunities in Türkiye for students from universities such as Kampala International University and Islamic University in Uganda.

“This group provides opportunities for people seeking health services from Turkey. Most Ugandans were not referred to Turkey because of the perception that it is expensive, which is not the case. This is the first milestone but the long term plan is to bring foreign health investment in Uganda bigger than the current information office. The collaboration will bridge gaps in health care service delivery because it’s needded especially for Uganda as a developing country to tap somrethn from a low profile.. until they are able to invest.” he said

The event saw the attendance of about 15 representatives from the Acibadem Group’s board, with various members speaking at the press conference. The ribbon-cutting ceremony symbolized the official opening of the Acibadem Kampala Information Office, the group’s 61st worldwide.
