In a major crackdown on cattle theft, police have netted five notorious suspects and recovered a Toyota Prado used in the crime.

The suspects, identified as Kagulire Farouk, Sebungye Ronald, Kenge Fred, Oneno Segawa Vincent, and Kalyango alias Younger, were captured during a police operation targeting cattle thieves in the Wamala region.

The suspects were found in possession of several stolen items, and the interior of the recovered Toyota Prado (reg. No. UAS 77T) had been modified to transport stolen cattle.

SP Kawala Racheal, Spokesperson for Wamala Region, says one of the suspects Kagulire Farouk, alleged to be the ring leader was recently released from Masindi prison on June 25, 2024, after serving a 3-year sentence while another, Kalyango, is accused of jumping bail in a previous cattle theft case in Kiboga District.

The operation is part of ongoing efforts to tackle cattle theft in the Wamala region. Kawala has commended the community for their alertness on-ground.
