The Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety has called upon the public to pick motorcycles currently parked at various police stations across the country, particularly within the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) area.

This appeal was made by Kananura Michael, the traffic spokesperson, during a press briefing at the police headquarters in Naguru.

Kananura stated that a significant number of motorcycles have been impounded and remain unclaimed at police stations. He urged owners to come forward and retrieve their vehicles, as most of these motorcycles are not subject to ongoing investigations or inquiries.

“We have a number of motorcycles parked at various police stations, especially in KMP. If you know you have a motorcycle parked at a police station, please come for it,” Kananura stated. “Bring the necessary documentation pertaining to the motorcycle so that you can take it.”

For those whose motorcycles have log books held by banks, Kananura assured that police officers would assist in facilitating communication with the banks to resolve any issues and enable owners to reclaim their vehicles.

Kananura said some people with missing motorcycles can check with the police stations to confirm if their motorcycles are in police custody, since some owners have shunned picking them up. He explains that these could be cases of stolen bikes.

During a traffic crack down last week, a total of 787 riders were caught on cases of riding without crash elements and without reflective jackets and an unspecified number of motorcycles impounded.
