Ssemujju Nganda (Kira Municipality) on Tuesday tasked the Gov’t to explain why he, and FDC colleagues, were mugged and tortured, while delivering a protest note to the Kenyan High Commission in Uganda.

The assertive lawmaker spoke during plenary, accusing security officers of dumping then in a smelly van reportedly meant for carrying ‘dead dogs’.

He further alleged that the ride was driven by a Police driver, who seemed to be high on drugs.

“Only to be met by irate police men. We were thrown in that vehicle that seems like it carries dogs and even dead ones and the person driving that vehicle behaves like he is on drugs. We thank God that we survived him” Said Ssemujju

However, the Attorney General Kiwanuka Kiryowa stated that he was going to investigate into Ssemujju’s actions at the time, which led to the State accusing him of causing a public disturbance. He also noted that being an MP does not shield one from being labeled a public nuisance by police.

“I find it intriguing that Ssemujju, a member of Parliament, is being accused of causing public annoyance; according to what I understand of the legislation, this includes honorable members of Parliament as well. I’m not sure if he was bothering anyone, but we’re going to investigate and report back on what Ssemujju was doing.” he explained

Police officers on Monday netted a group of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Katonga faction members who were marching to the Kenya High Commission to deliver a protest note about their 36 members who were arrested in Kenya two weeks ago.

The group that included 14 activists like veteran politicians Harlod Kaija, Ingrid Turinawe ,Nganda plus deputy Mayor Nanjura Doreen were among those arrested. The activists were netted by police as they marched.

The 36 FDC colleagues arrested in Kisumu, Kenya, have since been charged with terrorism and remanded.
