A horrible road crash on Wednesday has claimed the lives of ten people along the Fort Portal highway at Kaihura, around 04:00 am.

The collision involved a UBE 807T Isuzu bus, belonging to Pokopoko Company, and a UBR 812G Toyota Hiace.

According to SP Kananura Michael, spokesman Traffic and road safety says preliminary investigations suggest that the driver of the Toyota Hiace, normally operating on the Mbarara-Ntungamo-Kabale route, had been hired to transport mourners from Ntungamo to Kyenjojo for a burial.

The driver, who was unfamiliar with the Kaihura terrain, had been driving continuously without rest. As fatigue set in, the Hiace veered out of its lane, leading to a head-on collision with the oncoming bus.

Kananura says the impact was devastating, resulting in the death of all ten passengers in the Toyota Hiace, including the driver. No survivors have been identified from the Toyota Hiace involved in the crash.

He notes that the bodies have been transported to Kyenjojo Hospital for post-mortem examination, while both vehicles have been towed to the station for further investigation.
