Police is maintaining its stance on what transpired with NUP party principal Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi wine in Bulindo, Kira Municipality, on September 03 ,2024.
Despite several narratives on social media and video evidence released by eye witnesses on various platforms, the police spokesman Kituuma Rusoke has declined to commit to public allegations and has instead called for further investigations to ascertain circumstances that caused injury to Bobi’s left leg.
While speaking to journalists on Wednesday morning, Kituuma reiterated that it was Bobi who initiated an unplanned procession, blocking the road, hence police intervention. He explained that while bobi and his team claim he was shot, police officers present during the incident maintain that he stumbled while getting into his vehicle, leading to his injury.
He dismissed circulated social media videos showing Kyagulanyi stumbling amid tear gas near his car, and raised questions about the exact circumstances.
“Social media has circulated videos showing him appearing to stumble amid apparent teargas near his car, resulting in his injury. Police officers present claim he stumbled while getting into his vehicle. An investigation will be launched to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident” said Kituuma
He further stated that police will not condone acts of hooliganism by political players. According to police, CCTV footage revealed several incidents during the confrontation, including traffic disruption, the stoning of police officers, and other acts of hooliganism.
He revealed that three police officers were injured in the fracas, with one in serious condition. Additionally, the windshields of two police vehicles were shattered during the stone-throwing.
Police also maintain that the confrontation took place following a thanksgiving ceremony hosted by lawyer George Musisi, which Bobi wine attended. The situation escalated after the event when Bobi and his team despite being advised by the police continued to hold the procession that allegedly led to the blocking of the road, prompting police intervention..
