In a shocking turn of events, a routine kidnapping investigation erupted into chaos and gunfire in Buloba, Kiwumu Zone while police officers attached to the Joint Task force attempted to rescue an Egyptian National.
Drama began when Mohamed Ali Abdel Hamid, 40, an Egyptian diplomat and first secretary at the embassy in Uganda, mysteriously disappeared on November 8, 2024. He was last seen near Garden City Mall, driving his white RAV4, UVJ 913S but when he failed to return home, alarm bells went off.
The plot thickened when Hamid’s captors made contact, demanding a staggering $40,000 ransom for his safe release.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson says cops jumped into action, tracking down the suspects at their hideout in Peal Hotel where the kidnappers had sought refuge.
Tensions reached a fever pitch as a fire exchange between the police officers and suspects ensued causing one suspect to be shot down, and a female accomplice captured in the aftermath.
Owoyesigyire says that the shot suspect was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
He further notes that Hamid was rescued without harm, but questions remain about who else might have been involved in the abduction. Police officials are determined to trace every connection and motive behind the incident.
