President Yoweri Museveni has exercised his prerogative of mercy to pardon 19 prisoners across Uganda.

This decision, guided by Article 121 of the Constitution, aimed to grant clemency to individuals serving time for minor offenses or those considered eligible based on health and humanitarian grounds.

The pardoned individuals had committed offenses ranging from theft and assault to unlawful possession of restricted items. This initiative aligns with Uganda’s ongoing efforts to manage prison congestion and promote rehabilitation over extended incarceration for non-violent offenders.

The Uganda Prisons Service confirmed the release, noting that all necessary procedures for reintegration into society were followed.
