The countdown to 2025 is lighting up, quite literally and the Uganda Police Force has processed over 2,900 applications for fireworks displays across the country as excitement for New Year’s celebrations reaches fever pitch.

Speaking at the police headquarters on Monday, December 30, Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke confirmed that even more approvals are expected as the clock ticks closer to new years day in a matter of hours.

Kituuma revealed the big players behind the sparkle, naming seven licensed fireworks blaster companies that will handle all displays professionally. These include: Tomil Fireworks Limited, Fireworks 7000 Limited, Light Africa, Goshem Africa, Quality Lighting Uganda, Frames Uganda and Fesco Limited.

“These are the only approved companies. The public should beware of fraudsters masquerading as licensed operators,” Kituuma warned.

He stressed that illegal fireworks are a danger to public safety and cause unnecessary chaos. He called on all events owners and organizers to work with the approved fire works blasters to ensure that a professional job is done.

Kituuma urged the public to report any unauthorized displays to the police. The police spokesperson further reveled guidelines for the display that include among others that all displays must have been advertised clearly on the first four pages of newspapers and through other media. Displays are capped at a strict five-minute time limit. Certified personnel must handle all materials, and the shows must be in designated safe areas.

He also stated that the counter terrorism police must escort fire works materials at all times and supervise the display. Additionally, Kituuma affirmed that the District Police Commanders have the mandate to counsel any fire works display if they realize errors.
