Police in Kawempe are pursuing unknown armed assailants who raided two mobile money shops in Kanyanya, Kawempe Division, stealing over 3 million shillings on Friday night.

According to Patrick Onyango, Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, the assailants first attacked David Karuhanga’s shop, assaulting him and stealing 400,000 shillings. They then proceeded to Bruno Tayebwa’s neighboring shop, where they held him and his wife at gunpoint, seizing 3 million shillings and four phones.

Despite attempts by bystanders to intervene, the robbers fired warning shots into the air, forcing the crowd to disperse and ensuring their escape.

Police have since documented the scene and recovered bullet projectiles. Investigations are ongoing, and the public is urged to provide any helpful information.

The robbery bears striking similarities to a fatal incident in Ntinda-Kiwatule last year, where Albert Tugume, the brother of Kampala’s Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura, and a boda-boda rider were fatally shot during a mobile money shop robbery.
