A fatal road crash occurred this morning at approximately 07:15 am along the Kampala-Masaka highway, resulting in the tragic death of one individual and injuries to six others. The incident involved a Toyota Landcruiser (DO2DF 083) and a Toyota Harrier (UBG 978).
According to SP Michael Kananura, the Traffic Police Spokesperson, the crash occurred when the driver of the Landcruiser, traveling from Masaka to Mbarara, brushed against the Harrier moving in the opposite direction. The impact caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, which then swerved off the road and crashed into a tree.
The deceased was L/Corporal Aniku Zubaili, a UPDF officer, who was part of a convoy accompanying Maj. Gen. Paul Muhanguzi, the 2nd Division Commander at Makenke. Tragically, L/Corporal Zubaili died instantly from the injuries sustained during the crash.
Six other army officers who were in the convoy were injured in the accident. They were immediately rushed to the hospital and are currently receiving medical treatment for their injuries.
The incident is still under investigation, and authorities are working to determine the cause of the crash.
