Boda boda riders in Lwengo can finally breathe a sigh of relief after police raided a suspected motorcycle theft den, recovering several stolen number plates and dismantled bike parts.

Police spokesman Kituuma Rusoke reveals that on March 1, 2025, police in Lwengo Central got a hot tip from an informant about suspicious items stashed away in Jumba Rashid’s banana and coffee plantation. Rashid, already cooling his heels in a police cell for another boda boda robbery case, had no idea his secrets were about to be exposed.

According to Kituuma, with the help of locals, officers stormed the plantation in Lweyebere village and unearthed four stolen number plates: UFC 520W, UFH 779X, UFN 559V, and UFH 963F. But that was just the beginning.

The operation then extended to Mirembe village in Ndagwe Sub-County, where police, working with local leaders, searched Rashid’s house. What they found was shocking a stash of suspicious items, including a motorcycle key, broken number plate guards, a side mirror, three spanners, burnt remains of a motorcycle seat cover, and another hidden number plate, UFC 057C.

Kituuma says Rashid could be part of a larger motorcycle theft ring, and investigations are ongoing to track down other culprits. Meanwhile, boda boda riders are being urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
