A devastating fire broke out at Sunrise Hotel, located along Rashid Khamis Road, opposite Mukwano Mall, leaving one person dead and destroying property worth billions of shillings.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango,says the inferno erupted on the ground floor at approximately 10:00 a.m., quickly spreading thick smoke through the corridors and rooms, making evacuation efforts difficult.
He notes that the Directorate of Fire and Rescue Services, backed by other emergency agencies, swiftly responded to the crisis. The operation involved: Six fire trucks with firefighters, Four 999 patrol cars for security and logistical support, Territorial police and ambulances and Red Cross emergency teams
Despite the rapid intervention, one male adult, aged approximately 45 years, was found deceased at the scene.
Onyango says it’s estimated that property worth billions of shillings was lost in the fire, with businesses and guests suffering heavy losses. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
According to Onyango, fire crews successfully contained the blaze, but investigations into the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are ongoing. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
