A total of 186 supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) have officially crossed over to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), declaring that President Museveni is the only leader committed to transforming their lives.
Speaking during the final rally of the NRM candidate in the Kawempe North by election, the group, mobilized by Hon. Pamela and coordinated by Kaguta Sedrick and Kanyankole Abbel, expressed disappointment in NUP, saying it had failed to offer solutions to their economic struggles.
“We joined NUP hoping for change, but we have realized that NRM is the only party with a vision. The government has brought programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, which are changing people’s lives. We were being misled.” one defector stated.
Another added, “President Museveni fulfills what he pledges. Look at poverty alleviation programs and the peace in Kawempe. We can’t continue being deceived.”
The defectors vowed to mobilize more former opposition supporters to join NRM, saying they now understand that development, not empty rhetoric, is what Uganda needs.
