The National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate for the Kawempe North MP seat, Counsel Nalukoola Luyimbazi, has accused the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) of engaging in voter bribery and ballot stuffing.
Speaking moments after casting his vote at Kirokole village, Kawempe 1 Parish, Nalukoola claimed that NRM supporters were distributing money at various polling stations to influence voters. He further alleged that ballot boxes stuffed with pre-ticked ballots were hidden in residences within Kyebando and Nakamiro.
According to Nalukoola, his supporters informed him that one Hajjat Madina Nsereko in Kyebando and Pastor Luwagga Nakamiro, assisted by eight others, were involved in the alleged malpractice. He vowed to visit the said locations to verify the claims.
“From here, we shall peacefully go to these places to find out if these allegations are true. Are they really stealing these votes?” he questioned.
Nalukoola also accused state operatives of coordinating with groups of youth and security forces to cause chaos at polling stations, allegedly to create an opportunity for inserting pre-ticked ballots in favor of NRM’s Faridah Nambi. He further claimed that some of the fraudulent ballot papers were still being kept in Namere.
The opposition candidate urged journalists to keep their cameras rolling and not fear intimidation from security forces. He cited an incident in Sempa Zone, where one of his supporters attempting to record ballot stuffing was allegedly attacked by a police officer who confiscated his phone and stole his money.
Despite the reported irregularities, Nalukoola remains confident, insisting that NUP supporters have also documented instances of bribery and voter manipulation, which he says will be exposed.
