Arthur Mugyenyi has officially stepped into the spotlight as the new Director General of the Internal Security Organization (ISO), and he’s no stranger to power.

President Yoweri Museveni on Tuesday made changes in the Internal Security Organization (ISO), appointing Arthur Mugyenyi as the new Director General. The top spy position had been vacant since the death of Brig. Gen. Charles Oluka in January.

Mugyenyi, who previously served as Deputy Director for Political Intelligence at ISO, is a man deeply rooted in Uganda’s security circles. But what’s raising eyebrows is his strong family ties to President Museveni’s inner circle.

Mugyenyi hails from Nyabushozi, Kiruhura District, a region well-known for producing big shots in government. His father, Charles Rutembara, was a close ally of the late Amos Kaguta, the father of President Yoweri Museveni.

His deep political intelligence experience and family ties to the First Family have no doubt shaped his career.

With Mugyenyi now at the helm of Uganda’s spy agency, all eyes are on how he will steer the country’s intelligence operations.

In another twist, Tony Kinyera Apecu has been named Deputy Director General, replacing Col. Emma Katabazi, who has now been shipped off to a diplomatic post as Deputy Ambassador.
