Nagalama Police have rescued 51 people who had fallen victim to a suspected human trafficking and job scam disguised as a recruitment drive by AIM Global Alliance, a networking company operating in the area.

The rescue operation, carried out on April 2, 2025, followed reports that unsuspecting job seekers were being conned into paying money for non-existent employment opportunities. According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy police spokesman, victims were promised lucrative salaries but were first required to pay UGX 150,000 as a “training fee.”

Once recruited, victims were reportedly coerced into enlisting their friends and relatives, who were then pressured to pay UGX 1.5 million to purchase products they were expected to sell in a pyramid scheme-like operation. Recruits were lured with promises of earning up to UGX 1 million per month, depending on their recruitment efforts and sales.

The police operation covered several locations in Kalagi, Mukono District, where victims were found living in cramped and unsanitary conditions: Kakola Village, Kyabakadde Parish, Kyampisi Sub-county – 14 victims (3 males, 11 females) found sharing a single room. Kalagi Village, Naggalama A Ward, Nakifuma Naggalama Town Council – 20 victims (10 males, 10 females) squeezed into a small room and Bbosa Village, Kyabakadde Parish – 14 victims (6 males, 8 females) in one overcrowded room.

Owoyesigyire says police arrested two suspects, Kasule Zephaniah and Nantima Evelyn, believed to be masterminds behind the scheme. The duo is currently detained at Nagalama Police Station as investigations continue.

He has warned the public to remain cautious about fraudulent job recruitment schemes and report any suspicious activities to the police.
