Kituuma Rusoke, the Uganda Police Spokesperson, has sounded the alarm ahead of the long Easter weekend, telling Ugandans to stay alert and safety-conscious, especially in public gatherings and at home.

Rusoke pointed out hotspots of concern: markets, transport terminals, churches, disco clubs, entertainment grounds, beaches, and any venue where people gather to party, swim, or pray.

“All of these places need to have security and safety measures in place. “We appeal to the organizers of all of these events to work hand in hand with our security teams.” he emphasized

He revealed that robust security arrangements are already in place at district and regional levels, and are being coordinated through inter-agency teams.

But it’s not just public spaces raising concern, homes are also under the spotlight.

“We are also sending messages to homes, do not abandon your homes and leave children unattended. You know the risks. At times you register fires. Remember these are children who are tender.” Rusoke cautioned.

The police are particularly tightening the leash on drunk drivers, a notorious threat during festive seasons.

“Motorists, please avoid drinking alcohol and then ending up on the roads, causing accidents, injuring yourselves and others. The long arm of the law shall work against you if we find you at the steering wheel under the influence.” he warned,
