Ugandan long distance runners who include Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo have been nominated by the World Athletics Council for Male World Athlete of the year 2020.

The list comprises of 10 nominees who were selected by the international panel of Athletics Experts.

Cheptegei set world records in three of his races this year, starting with his 12:51 clocking in the 5km on the roads in Monaco in February and six months later followed by his 12:35:36 5000m run also in Monaco.

He also won the 10,000m world record in Valencia on October with his stunning 26:11:00 performance and came fourth at the World Athletics Half Marathon Championship on his debut over the distance.

His compatriot, Kiplimo became the first Ugandan to win the World Half Marathon title in a record time of 578:49 and won the Diamond League 3000m run in Rome in a time of 7:26:64, the fastest 3000m since Kenenisa Bekele’s 7:25:70 in August 2007.

He also won the 5000m run in Ostrava in September in a time of 12:48:63 and improved his best of 13:13:64 set as a 16 year old in the 20-17 Prefontaine Classic.
