Retired Political giant Col Dr. Kizza Besigye has added his voice to the campaign to see the release of NUP Presidential candidate  Robert Kyagulanyi famously known as Bobi Wine.

Besigye on Wednesday criticized the mainstream media for turning a deaf ear to the police brutality and violence on civilians that ended in deaths, grave injuries, destruction, and arrests.

Civilians from different parts of the country joined forces, demanding the release of Bobi after he was thrown into police custody on Wednesday morning.

“MEDIA BLACKOUT of what’s been taking place in Kampala after the arrest of presidential candidate Hon Kyagulanyi is very OMINOUS! With several people confirmed dead & tension mounting, NBS Tv is broadcasting LIVE M7’s campaign in Moroto; others are playing music or doing their normal programs,” Besigye said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

Besigye has on Thursday, joined the campaign demanding that Bobi Wine be is released.

“Free Hon Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) NOW.•Free Ugandans NOW!•Ugandans: remain firm &take actions to end captivity NOW.•INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT: Please process petition of Ugandans; more generous crimes underway!•Those funding the Rogue NRM/M7 Junta must stop. STOP ODIOUS DEBTS,” Besigye said.

Bobi Wine was arrested on Wednesday by police as he tried to hold a campaign rally in Luuka district, defying Electoral commission guidelines on only hosting 200 persons.

Bobi wine is currently still detained at Nalufenya prison in Jinja where he was transferred to on Wednesday afternoon.

Opposition candidates have condemned the manner of arrest that saw the military and police forcefully breaking Bobi’s ride before grabbing him out like a chicken thief.
