Police have arrested DP’s National vice-chairperson Mukasa Mbidde in Masaka City following the violence that erupted in Masaka city after NUP’s Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi wine’s arrest on Wednesday.

Police say he reportedly incited violence in the public that led to the vibrant riots that happened in Masaka City.

Police have accused him of coordinating the demonstrations that had spread to different parts of Masaka town as NUP supporters protested the arrest of their presidential candidate.

Just like other parts of the country , irate Bobi wine supporters blocked roads and burnt tyres in the middle, while others threw garbage in the middle of the road.

Several people were arrested in relation to the violent protests.

On Wednesday, the Masaka Municipality Member of parliament, Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba, and his Bukoto East county counterpart, Florence Namayanja were locked up at Masaka Central Police Station in relation to protests.

Security officer broke the main gate to Mpuuga’s home and broke into the house where some of the leaders were planning their campaign meeting.

Muhammad Nsubuga, the greater Masaka Region Police Spokesperson, says the politicians were arrested on intelligence indicating that they were planning anarchy in the town.

On Thursday, Masaka City has been largely deserted after police fired bullets and tear gas to disperse protestors who were trying to ‘rekindle’ yesterday’s incident.
