Police have spoken out about the Thursday incident involving the NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi wine spending a sleepless cold night in his ride after police denied him accommodation.
Bobi wine and his campaign team slept the night in their cars at Migyera, Nakasongola district after the area DPC refused him to enjoy peaceful accommodation.
Bobi Wine was traveling from Hoima district in Bunyoro region, where he was equally blocked by police from accessing somewhere to stay on orders from above.
However, police have come out to set the record straight. Fred Enanga the police mouthpiece says Kyagulanyi had a very big number on his campaign team that could fit the rooms that were available.
“Yesterday, he left Hoima en route to Kyankwanzi, he arrived at Migyera at around with an entourage of about 180 people which is a very big number and they could all not get accommodated. Now, there was what was trending on social media that he had been blocked from accessing the hotel which is not true,” Enanga said.
He however acknowledges that the DPC had a heated argument with Bobi overstaying in Nakasongola because it wasn’t on his campaign roadmap but that was soon solved with the intervention of the area RPC who finally resolved to give him accommodation.
Enanga says Bobi and the team were booked into Jeira hotel, however, rooms were fewer than the crowd and the standards were not up to their standards.
“Some of the team members proceeded to Luweero but he and some of his private bodyguards opted to sleep in their vehicles, there was nobody who forced them to sleep in vehicles,” Enanga added.
He says Kyagulanyi and team are often delayed by huge crowds that he normally moves with which slows down his movement plans and that it has greatly impacted his campaign program.
“However, in the morning, he and his team proceeded toKyankwanzi with their campaign program,” he added.
