The Muslim community is grieving the loss of a celebrated cleric, Shiekh Nuhu Muzaata.
Local based Muslim TV Salam first broke the news by confirming that the head of Da’awa in Uganda (Kibuli faction), had died on Friday.
“Inallillahi waa ina ilayihi rajioon, Sheikh Muzaata confirmed dead. May Allah forgive him all his shortcomings,” the TV station posted on its Facebook page.
The cause of his demise is yet to be known but his body is still at the International Hospital Kampala (IHK) where he was hospitalized 2 weeks ago.
Muzaata was rushed to the hospital after a serious health-related attack.
There has been widespread speculation, surrounding his death with some people pointing it to a long illness from poisoning while others suggesting it was Covid19.
We are yet to substantiate the exact cause of his death.
However, Supreme Mufti, Sheikh Siliman Kasule Ndirangwa, has trashed claims he was poisoned while he mentioned that Sheikh Muzaata was in stable condition on Thursday.
Also on Thursday, after the news of his passing went viral on social media, Imam Idi Kasozi a celebrated Muslim scholar also discarded it as just a rumor.
“Sheikh Muzaata is alive. I have just spoken to him 5 minutes ago,” Imam Kasozi stressed.
Muzaata was largely described as a vocal Muslim cleric who had always spoken out his mind.
While alive he uttered sarcastic comments and attacked many high-profile people like fellow Muslim leaders, the Prime Minister of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga, former KCCA Director Jennifer Musisi, several politicians, musicians among others.
