A frail talking Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago says the poor health system in Uganda needs urgent rebuilding if Ugandans are to stop dying to avoidable illnesses.
Lukwago was speaking at his home in Wakaliga after arriving from Kenya.
Lukwago says the poor health system has led to the loss of lives. He says the time is now for Uganda to recommit itself to rebuilding the health sector.

‘‘We must recommit ourselves in rebuilding the health system, the healthcare system in this country is sick, imagine millions of Ugandans are languishing in those facilities where there are no doctors, where they cannot access medicines, personally, I was referred to Agakhan by Doctors here because of inadequate facilities.”He stated

Lukwago says now is the time to act before it is too late
”We signed the Abuja declaration way back in 2001, as a country we committed to allocate at least 15 percent of our budget, but today, we are yet even to register, to honor even half of that commitment which is even absurd, the time is now for us, in the wake of this pandemic to realign our strategy,” he warned
Lukwago was discharged on Sunday from the Agakhan hospital in Nairobi where he had been admitted for close to a week after being diagnosed with a life-threatening condition.
He touched ground on Monday morning at Entebbe Airport in the company of his wife, where he was welcomed by family and a few staff from KCCA.

Lukwago says the poor health system has led to the loss of lives. He says the time is now for Uganda to recommit itself to rebuilding the health sector.
He was recommended for further treatment to Nairobi by medics from Rubaga hospital after he was found to have acute anaphylaxis.
Anaphylaxis causes your immune system to release a flood of chemicals that can cause you to go into shock — your blood pressure drops suddenly and your airways narrow, blocking breathing.
