Dr. Andrew Sekitoleko the Kampala Archdiocesan Health coordinator has revealed that his Grace, the late Dr. Cyprian Lwanga Kizito succumbed to a heart attack.

According to a postmortem report read by Sekitoleko,the Kampala Archbishop suffered from a condition called Ischemic Heart Disease that led to a blockage of his arteries on that fateful day.

This means there was a blood clot in one to his arteries that blocked supply of blood to his heart ,medically described as coronary artery thrombosis.

“After careful examination of the body parts of his Grace (The Archbishop Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga) a conclusion of his cause of death was made. The cause of death was Ischemic heart disease” Dr. Andrew Sekitoleko said.

Sekitoleko who confirms he was one of the 1st physicians to drop by the Archbishops residence upon his death also affirms that it was a quick death that could have lasted 5 to 6 minutes maximum.

The archbishop was pronounced dead on Sunday by Fr Pius Male Ssentumbwe, the Chancellor of Archdiocese of Kampala.

“With deep sorrow, I hereby inform you that our beloved Shepherd, the Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, His Grace Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has been called to the house of the Lord. The Archbishop was found dead in his room this morning. We pray that the Almighty and Merciful God may grant him eternal rest,” Fr Ssentumbwe said in a statement on Saturday.

The late archbishop will be laid to rest on Thursday,April 8th, at Lubaga cathedral after a requiem mass that happens at 10.00 am presided over by the chairperson of the Uganda episcopal conference, Bishop Joseph Anthony Ziwa .
