Boycott Of Museveni Swearing-in

The leader of Opposition-LOP Betty Aol Ochan alongside 2 Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Members of Parliament have called on Mp’s to shun President Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony unless Ugandans arrested during and after the 2021 general elections are released.

President Museveni is slated to be sworn in on May 12 at an event expected to be attended by various heads of States and over 4000 bigwigs.

According to the government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo, the government has injected 7 billion shillings to cater for the entire event in terms of facilitation for, transport, SOPs requirements, accommodation, and security among others.

Among the invited guests are all Mp-elects, all Ministers, business community, religious leaders among others.

However, the LOP Betty Aol Ochan alongside MPs, Atkins Katusabe the Bukonzo West MP and shadow Minister Foreign Affairs and the Leader of Opposition have asked opposition MPs not to attend the event.

They say the boycott should happen unless Government discloses the whereabouts of the missing people and ensure they have access to their doctors, lawyers, and family members.

Boycott Of Museveni Swearing-in

MP Katusabe wants members of the diplomatic community and members of the public to keep away from the swearing-in ceremony of President Museveni until action is taken.

‘Our development partners, members of the diplomatic community, opposition leaders, and members of the opposition to boycott the presidential swearing-in Ceremony, any opposition leader who heartlessly decides to attend the ceremony, you will be branded unworthy to lead democracy and good governance in the country.he said

Meanwhile, LOP Aol says that it is sad that Ugandans are being abducted and held incommunicado.

She says other countries should join the United States to impose travel restrictions on Ugandans involved in human rights violations.

‘people who hold people in incommunicado are left free, so it is very unfortunate, it is happening in Uganda today, that is why America came up with that sanction, that is why we are also following it up, requesting that it could be expounded by other missions”.Aol said

Yesterday the government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo while responding to various opposition leaders indicated that the government extended an olive branch by inviting opposition MP’s to the event.

Ofwono said it is not mandatory that all opposition Mp’s should attend the event unless they are interested.

He added that the event would still go on despite their rants.
