Kampala Capital City Authority-KCCA has dismissed claims that 21000 covid 19 Jabs are unaccounted for .

This follows a directive from the Ministry of Health to KCCA to account for the jabs missing on records.

The health ministry says out of 964,000 vaccine doses received in March this year,200,000 were given to KCCA during the vaccination rollout to local governments.

However,it has come to their attention that the usage of 21000 vaccines have no data attached to them.

Dr. Alfred Driwale, the program manager of the Uganda National Expanded Programme on Immunization says the vaccines were given to KCCA, which was in charge of vaccination in Kampala.

He says data that was forwarded to the health ministry’s vaccination team from different districts. shows that the highest number of unaccounted for jabs are from Kampala.

However the KCCA spokesperson Daniel NuweAbine explains that all the vaccine jabs will be accounted for ,he says there was only a delay in data entry .

“KCCA  has had a surge in demand for COVID 19 vaccines in the last weeks leading to crowding of the health facilities and a backlog in data entry of person’s particulars at the several vaccination points. It’s premature to say vaccines are missing yet data entry is ongoing,” said NuweAbine.

Over the weekend, Police carried out a raid on 2 pharmacies in Kampala and busted staff there with over 803 Astra Zeneca jabs being sold illegally.

The pharmacies including Victoria Hospital and First Pharmacy were reportedly costing the free vaccines between 300’000-500,000k.

Victoria hospital was one of the few private facilities that KCCA gave permission to carry out vaccination.

However,the director of public health and environment at KCCA, Dr. Daniel Okello has dismissed claims KCCA ‘s missing jabs are conected to those found in pharmacies.

So far a total of 786,160 persons have been vaccinated countrywide.Meanwhile the government has announced a second consignment of 175000 Astra Zeneca jabs.

Meanwhile confirmed covid 19 infections stand at 63,099,recoveries 48,480 and all samples tested 1.203.499 .
