Police have linked their own officers to encouraging the illegal operation of bars and other drinking joints.
He says they have intelligence information indicating that people have started running bars during the day with the help of DPC’s and other police bosses.
This follows reports of police commanders and Oc’s in Nateete Kampala, deliberately allowing bars and local drinking joints to operate despite a ban on them.
Police mouthpiece Fred Enanga says police under the command of, police director for operations, AIGP Edward Ochom raided Nateete and found more than 120 drinking alcohol and local joints working.
Enanga says AIGP Ochom has now directed the force’s Professional Standards Unit –PSU to conduct an investigation into those officers.
He says police will now penalize all District and Division police commanders and Oc’s of police stations protecting bars and other entertainment places to operate.
“The director operation has issued a stern warning to DPCs and OCs because we have noticed some of them are aware of the bars and people doing house parties. For example, what happened in Nateete the Professional Standards Unit had descended on the DPC and OC to account for the continued flouting of the SOPs.”
In March last year, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, closed all entertainment venues including bars in a bid to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
